Christmas Party Ideas in Milton Keynes: Real Snow, Real Ice, Code-Breakers and a Table at the Pottery Studio

Milton Keynes does Christmas better than its reputation suggests, and most of it is within twenty minutes of our studio in Woburn Sands. Whether you are organising the office do, a family day out or a night for the friends who never manage to meet up, here is what the town actually has, from the people who spend December covered in glaze.

Real snow, indoors

Xscape in the centre has Snozone, a slope of real snow: skiing and snowboarding lessons, or sledging for the ones who would rather not learn anything. The same building has iFLY, the indoor skydiving tunnel, and enough restaurants for the meal afterwards. The obvious team pick for a group that wants an actual activity and a story for Monday.

Two ice rinks

Planet Ice is the permanent rink, open all year, so it never sells out the way the seasonal ones do. The seasonal one is on our doorstep: the covered rink at Woburn Sands Emporium, real ice, lights and music, with toddler sessions and quieter sessions for children who need them. Skate first, paint second. Both are in the village.

The city centre, lit up

centre:mk turns Middleton Hall into Starlight Square for the season: a carousel, a helter skelter, a little train and a Christmas market under the glass roof. Next door, Midsummer Place runs a Christmas tree festival, with trees decorated by local charities and a vote for the best one. Neither needs booking, which makes them the easy add-on to a shopping trip or an after-work wander.

Bletchley Park in December

The code-breaking site does the season in period: a 1940s-style grotto for the children, festive music in the mansion, and the story of Enigma, which is a team exercise in disguise. A few stops from Woburn Sands on the Marston Vale line.

Party nights at Woburn and Arena MK

For the office that wants the full dinner-and-dancefloor format without hiring a venue, the shared Christmas party night is the answer, and the area has two big ones. Woburn Safari Park runs them in its venue spaces, ten minutes down the road from us, and Arena MK at the stadium runs a themed party night through December. Both take small teams onto shared nights and whole companies on exclusive ones.

Music at The Stables

Wavendon, the village next door, has The Stables, the venue Cleo Laine and John Dankworth built. December is its busiest month: carols, jazz, Christmas shows, candlelit concerts. A room small enough that every seat is a good one, and a better end to an evening than a taxi rank.

Escape rooms, quizzes, treasure hunts

For the team of six to twelve: MK has several escape rooms, quiz nights that can be written around your office, and GPS treasure hunts that take a team round the city’s landmarks, Concrete Cows included. Timed, cheap per head and competitive, which suits a department more than a whole company.

Paint your Christmas at Studio 150 (this is us)

Our Milton Keynes studio is at 150A Station Road in Woburn Sands, and it is the one that does everything: pottery painting from 300+ pieces, the wheel and hand-building. December adds baubles to the shelves. Pieces start at £15 with a £5 studio fee per person, and paints, glazing and firing are all in.

Families: daytime sessions have no lower age limit, children just need an adult with them, and a table of four painting baubles is a better afternoon than the queue for the grotto. Friends: Late Night sessions run Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, with music and your own drinks, 18+. Teams: we host private festive events for groups from 8 up to 40 in-studio, with bespoke packages from £30 per person, VAT invoices, and 15% off for NHS teams. And if the office would rather not travel, the mobile workshop comes to you anywhere around MK for groups of 10 or more.

Fancy the wheel instead? The beginner wheel taster is £45 for an hour and a half, and the Clay and Coffee mornings are the slow version, £30 for two hours. For the person with everything, a gift card is digital, valid 12 months and works at any of the five studios.

Getting here

Woburn Sands has its own station on the Marston Vale line between Bletchley and Bedford, and Studio 150 is on Station Road. By car we are just off the A5130, ten minutes from junction 13 of the M1, with parking in the village. Bedford and Luton are both about half an hour away.
