Neither needs any experience. The wheel is the one everybody pictures; hand-building is the one everybody underestimates. Both end with a piece you made and we fire.

Me and my friend had a great experience at Social Pottery Making. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable even as beginners. The painting session was fun. All the staff are lovely and welcoming. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested.
Social Pottery helped us organize a beautiful pottery painting workshop for 30 students! Everyone had a great time. Chloe was especially helpful through the process, and extremely accommodating to all our requests! A must do for anyone looking for a nice decompression workshop!

How much is a pottery class in London?
Wheel throwing tasters start at £30 per person and hand-building workshops at £32. Six-week courses at Studio 221 in Camden start at £260. Clay, tools, tuition, glazing and firing are included in every price.
Do I need any experience?
None. Tasters and workshops are built for complete beginners, and so is the Level 1 course. The Level 2 Improvers course is for anyone who has thrown before.
Should I book a taster or a course?
A taster is one session of one to two and a half hours, and most people book one before anything else. A course is six weekly sessions of two and a half hours at Studio 221, with the same small group each week: around 15 hours at the wheel.
Can I walk in?
No. Wheel and hand-building sessions run with a tutor from start to finish, so they are booking-only. Pottery painting is the one you can walk in for.
When can I take my pieces home?
Pieces made from clay take around 3 to 4 weeks, because they have to dry right through before they are fired and glazed. We message you when they are ready, and you then have 30 days to collect from the studio where you made them.
Can I keep practising after a class?
At Studio 221 in Camden, yes: open-studio memberships give you a wheel and bench time at your own pace.
